Dr. Marco Siu Chung Ha came from Hong Kong to Taiwan to study medicine, eventually entering the fields of surgery and pediatric surgery before embarking on medical missions in war zones. From the fragile boundary between life and death in the operating room to resource-limited refugee camps and the casualties of war, he repeatedly came face to face with the limits of medicine—and found himself asking anew: “When suffering defies explanation, is God still present?” With honesty, the author writes about a physician’s struggles in the face of broken lives, while also coming to see that hope is found in continuing to believe that God has not left, even amid the harshest realities. After returning to Taiwan from the front lines, he transformed what he had learned into preparation for disaster medicine and emergency response, allowing the suffering he had witnessed to become a source of strength for protecting more lives.

夏肇聰醫師 Dr. Marco, Siu Chung Ha
香港出生，現於台灣行醫，為小兒外科及創傷科醫師，長期投入急重症、創傷、小兒外科與災難醫學。曾參與南蘇丹、烏克蘭等地醫療任務，也投入台灣搜救隊醫療支援與醫療訓練工作。身為基督徒醫師，他在手術台、災區與宣教現場中，持續思考信仰、醫療與服事的意義，並透過寫作與分享，記錄上帝在苦難之地的工作。
Born in Hong Kong and currently practicing medicine in Taiwan, Dr. Ha is a pediatric and trauma surgeon with extensive experience in critical care, trauma surgery, pediatric surgery, and disaster medicine. He has participated in medical missions in South Sudan, Ukraine, and other regions, and has also provided medical support and training for search-and-rescue teams in Taiwan. As a Christian physician, he continues to reflect on the meaning of faith, medicine, and service through his experiences in the operating room, disaster zones, and mission fields. Through writing and sharing, he seeks to bear witness to God’s work in places marked by suffering.
